    From High on A North Carolina Mountain just outside of Boone North Carolina I send fond greetings to a fine gentleman. Yes...a fine gentleman and musician that started me on my journey with clawhammer banjo. Each time I pick up my banjer you are in my thoughts. And your music flows through its strings. I just bought a "Movo lapel mike" which looks identical and operates in the same manner as the mike this video is using. Do you have a lot of issues with feedback using your mike, as this one does have issues at times especially when gain and echo is turned up to a level where it can be heard over other instruments in a band. At Low volume works great.

    • @Cj12sings
      @Cj12sings 2 місяці тому

      I have not played in a band setting, only a small room ..one thing that has helped is have the amplifier far way from the mic, but you have probably tried that...

    Ken says that he has found that a cello endpin is deliterious to the sound in a big way. I include strap buttons so you can use a strap for extra support. Most people do.

      Makes sense probaply dampers the vibration of the instrument...sorry I just saw the comment ...

    I am not a luthier, but I will say this: Everyone in Mando world is stuck on heavy strings. At 25" scale length, you can go down as narrow as 56's for your C strings and it will be much more playable. The 72's come from the old short scale Gibson O'celli. With long scale instruments and the really heavy strings, it is hard to diagnose buzzing unless you're a grip strength champion. Also, while the heavy string sound is good on Mandolin, you can get a clearer sound with lighter strings when you're in Octave or Cello range-- lighter strings can prevent some of the muddy tone these conversions can produce at the very low end.

    • @sadneighbors2362

      The only other insight I have is most guitar conversions I see go for five courses unless they have a really narrow neck. I have experimented with five strings in fifths-- great for arpeggios, scale runs, and double stops, but strumming chords on all strings really works best with four courses. Given the costs involved, a conversion is a great choice to get a playable instrument with the string spacing you want (Overly wide spacing is a complaint I've seen online about Eastman). Even having a tech do it is likely to be competitive if not cheaper.@@Cj12sings

    Why did you raise the sympathetic strings nut so high, above the barred strings? This would seem to make the barred strings much harder to play.

    • @Cj12sings
      @Cj12sings 6 місяців тому

      Hello my friend, the high bridge in the front is actually the chikari strings the sympathetic strings are more level with the fret board the sympathetic bridge is toward the bottom of the guitar....ahh alas this instrument was disassembled long ago for other projects

    Love your Stick Dulcimers. The BASS ones intrigued me. A month ago I made a 37” long, 25.5” scale with ash body/neck with cedar top with a black walnut laminated center neck and mulberry finger board and bridge. Bone nut & saddle. Now you got my gears turning in my head to build a BASS. Thank you for this demonstration. Take care and keep crafting.

    When you're showing us slowly, I see you're strumming D, U, D, and the last D. And then repeating it. But I've slowed the playback speed when you sped up, and it looks (and sounds) like you're using that last D on all the strings to go straight into the U on the first string, instead of doing another D right after the last one to start over again. Is that how we do it when strumming fast?
